Party Crasher, Part 1

🌿BREATHE TRUTH🌿

When a certain immoral woman from that city heard He was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.  Then she knelt at His feet weeping.  —Luke 7:37-38

🌿LIVE THE REAL TRUTH🌿

When we look back at our lives, there are things that come to our mind that we could have done bolder, dreamed bigger, delivered better.  This woman can check off all the above.

Do bolder.

An immoral woman.  Little approval.  Little acclaim.  Little admiration.  This woman has received little significance in society.  Now she is crashing a party where significant people are attending, and she isn’t supposed to be one of them.

Not on the invitation list.  Check.

Not on the inner circle list.  Check.

Not on the “I am highly esteemed” list.  Check.

Yet here she is.  In the presence of perfect people with perfect lives.  But she is an imperfect woman living an imperfect life.

How audacious can she get?  In the eyes of the invitees and inviter, her arrival at this party is scandalous and outrageous.  Uninvited by the world……But someone is praying her appearance and what He perceives is more important than what everyone else believes.  Jesus acknowledges and announces her presence in a way no one has done before, with grace not disgrace, with honor, not dishonor.

Welcome, daughter.  Come as you are.  Bring all that you are, and all that you are not.

🍃

The idea of being invited interweaves community and commonalities together.  Unfortunately, this woman is not welcomed into her community nor does she feel she has anything in common with them.  But she has a God who embraces her and those regarded as outcasts or outsiders, and He becomes their common ground.

Our God is an insider God.  He includes from the inside everyone on the outside.

Our God is a God of community.  He makes room for all who feel disenfranchised, and He becomes the franchised Community for them.

Our God is a God of compassion.  He has compassion on the Pharisee whom He accepts the invitation to dine at his abode.  (Jesus could have declined).  And He has compassion on the party crasher.

So whether you are the one giving the party or crashing the party, stay a while, Beloved.  There’s ample room for you in Christ Jesus here.
