“Our ancestors left us a foolish heritage, for they worshipped worthless idols. Can people make their own idols? These are not real gods at all!” —Jeremiah 16:19-20
🌿Believe Truth🌿
Rushing rivers run forever. The mercies of God are never ending as well. But the Israelites reject His goodness by finding idols to fill that hole in their lives.
The idols they chose over God set a negative precedence for their children and descendants. A legacy arises that lays a foundation of unfaithful choices.

Children are master copiers. Expert parrot and macaw impersonaters. Like birds that simply repeat what their masters say. Kids regurgitate what is manifested in front of them. They emulate what they see and imitate what they hear in their parents’ actions and attitudes. A family that worships idols together, falls together.
Our children are akin to these Old Testament kids.

Today, idols are no longer made of wood, stone, or metal but modern day idolatry thrives and burns its imprint on families leaving its branded mark mercilessly.
The question begs: How have idols made its way into the 21st century? Because we breathe life into their lifeless bodies.
“The idols are merely things of silver and gold, shaped by human hands.
They have mouths but cannot speak, and eyes but cannot see.
They have ears but cannot hear, and noses but cannot smell.
They have hands but cannot feel, and feet but cannot walk.” —Psalm 115:4-7

Inanimate objects no more! We inject oxygen into their idol corpses, infusing their ability to rise from the dead. We do so by closing the doors to our house and family to Yahweh God and opening side entrances to allow them to slip in where we think God doesn’t know, notice, or see.
Idols whose mouths speak lies to us. Idols whose eyes follow our every move. Idols whose ears cater to our pleas. Idols whose hands lead us astray. Idols whose feet pursue us with false promises.

Idols succeed because we give them opportunities to. But idols also achieve their goals because they evolve and morph into ideals, relationships, and hopes that they know we covet and long for. Idols are experts at reading our minds, hearts, and longings. So good that they win our thoughts and desires way before any idolatrous actions ever occur on our part.
Once they conquer our cognitive processes, their mouths, ears, hands, eyes, and feet are free to run amuck our inner life and destroy our worship of God.

Idols not only bring down individuals, they bring down whole families.
Worthless idols leave behind a tragic heritage for our descendants and those who tread after us. Idols are not real and their uncanny ability to rise from the dead is because we breathe new life into them—when we bow down in worship them. Idols can only be as real as we make them to be.

Find a good cemetary plot, Take idols that have been awakened in your lives and your family’s lives. Dig a hole. Go bury your idols. Forever. With Jesus’ help, you can do it.
Bury your idols and live for the Real Truth.
