“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in Me.” —John 14:1

Jesus tells His disciples He is going to prepare a place for them soon. When everything is ready, He will come and get them.
Jesus reminds them: “You know the way to where I am going.” (John 14:14)
Then one lone disciple asks an unexpected question:
No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” (John 14:5)

Thomas is one of the original, unique 12 disciples. He has been living, breathing, learning, serving, accompanying Jesus throughout His ministry. A man who has been with Jesus, broken bread with Him in homes, roads, towns all over Judea, slept near Him in the open fields and sloping hills, and loves Him with all his heart. And yet Thomas doesn’t have an inkling of what Jesus is talking about. He has no idea where Jesus is going.

Truth is, you and I could replace Thomas’s name with our own. Because at some point in our journey of faith, we had no idea where we were going either.

Small byways, medium streets, major intersections where we didn’t know where to turn or which way to take. Which choice to make, which relationship to keep, which words to believe, which dream to hold onto.

Jesus understands our confusion and bewilderment. He redirects our uncertainty onto the right avenue and adds a theology lesson.
Jesus told him (Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
The path to God and knowing God is to Jesus first. No Jesus. No heaven. Yes Jesus. Yes to all the everlasting goodness of heaven from here to infinity.

Jesus opens the way so that we can know the way.
-The way to a relationship with God.
-The connection that makes eternal life a reality.
-The sweet fellowship with God that has no end.
All these benefits are possible through Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
