Set the Beacon

🌿Breathe Truth🌿

The Lord spread a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness.”  —Psalm 104:39

God’s people have spent more than 400 years in bondage in Egypt.  Their release meant freedom and fear.  Freedom from their oppressors yet fear of an unknown future.

What does God do?  He prepares them for what is ahead.  Leaving Egypt was not only an end to a horrific chapter in their history.  Defeating their former Egyptian masters was not simply the conclusion of a long struggle.

From the moment the Israelites stepped foot outside of Egypt, they were embarking on a never before journey.  The emancipation of enslavement would lead to a new war.

In essence, the Israelites journey from Egypt to the promised land for the next 40 years was a battle march.

During the time of Alexander the Great, at the beginning of marching off to war, his officers would place a large beacon on a pole in their head quarters’ tent. The beacon’s fire would illuminate light in the dark and release smoke in the daytime.  It is suggested by historians that the tradition of the beacon was also present during the period of the Exodus when the Israelites were fleeing Egypt.

The cloud by day could be liken to the officers’ pavilion tent.  The light by night, a signal and guiding entity.

God placed a divine canopy over the His people for protection.  He provided a light to show the way through the darkness.  The light guided the Israelites and signaled to enemies this message:  we are on a war march.  Don’t mess with us.

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.”  —Psalms 119:105

“I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  —John 8:12

Today, we have two lanterns to radiate our way.  The word of God, The Bible, and the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who is the Light of the world.

Place the beacon of God’s word in your home head quarters. Set the beam so it will glow through your times of darkness and greatest need.

In your life, family, and home, light up the Real Truth.
