“From where the sun rises to where it sets, You shouts of joy.” —Psalm 65:8
Our flight to California today. When all of a sudden an enormous dog appears next to me. Similar size to my Australian sheep dog at home. He belongs to the passenger behind me. But this isn’t any seeing eye dog. It’s a comfort feeling dog. An emotional support canine. The owner described him as a Labradoodle. Tall as a Labrador and with massive curls like a poodle. A helper.
On a plane, the panoramic view of the ground below is dramatic. From this vantage point, you can see buildings, houses, roads, and other unusual topography. The sun shines intensely and the clouds are so close you want to reach out and grasp hold of them.
Sometimes, you wonder what God thinks when He looks down from Heaven and sees us.
Our mistakes, mishaps, mismanagement. Our failings, faults, frailty. God knew we would need a helper on earth and not just any kind, but a divine one. Animal helpers and earthly helpers may play functional roles in our lives, but a supernatural helper supersedes all.
“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.” —John 14:15
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit as our helper. He warns that the world won’t accept or be able to identify the Holy Spirit. But to those who believe, this Holy Spirit will come and dwell inside to guide and give direction as we traverse this journey of faith and doing life with God.
“The world cannot receive Him because it isn’t looking for Him and doesn’t recognize Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you now and later will be in you.” (John 14:17)
From the moment we rise in the morning to the moment we close our eyes at nighttime. The presence of God and the Holy Spirit is there. To greet us when we awaken and to be there with us when we fall asleep. The Holy Spirit is with us, residing inside the believer, all day, every day, always. God’s Word affirms this indwelling.
God the Father. Jesus the Son. The Holy Spirit as Advocate. From Sonrise to Sonset. You are not alone.
Rise up in the morning. Rest down in the evening. Ride the day knowing the Holy Spirit is guiding you into God’s truth. Ride with the Real Truth.
