Soar High

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.  Even youths grow weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.

They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.”  —Isaiah 40:29-31

In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, there is a large bush that thrives in the wintertime.  In freezing weather, it stands.  With all its dark green leaves and oval buds intact.

First day of ski school went well for my youngest.  She was bubbly and cheerful when sharing about her day.  But Day 2 in the morning was a different story.  She wanted to stay home with Mom.  So I waited outside the kids ski school hoping she might change her mind.

It was then that I noticed in the snow…….a large bush in full bloom, very verdant, and full of leaves.  Adjacent to some bushes whose leaves were completely gone….literally a stick bush with only its bare branches left.

First bush alive.  Second bush appeared dead.

Such a stark contrast.

Such a powerful picture of our walks with God when harsh weather descends.

What does your spiritual life look like?

When the climate turns adversely? When the throes of winter confronts you?  When life doesn’t turn out the way you hoped?

A winter.  Of disappointments.  Of failures.  Of brokenness.  Of betrayal.  Of lies.  Of loss.

Do you still bloom?  Verdant leaves?  Thriving full of life regardless of life’s circumstances.

In Christ, you can.

In the winter of adversity.  He gives power to the weak.

In weakness and exhaustion.  Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.

You will rise up.  You will persevere.  You will endure.  You will soar on wings like eagles.  You will run and not grow weary.  You will walk and not faint.

Trust that in the winter season of your life.  You can still bloom.  In Christ.  Trust this Real Truth.
