Before the Lord, we bring our prayers and cry out to Him. We lay out the obstacles facing us. Our hands lifted up. Our hearts offered unto Him. We wait.
“After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the Lord’s Temple and spread it out before the Lord.” —Isaiah 37:14
The Assyrians are warning Hezekiah of their pending arrival at the gates and walls of Jerusalem. They want to discourage Hezekiah into surrendering. See how powerful we are. No other nation so far has defeated us. You are next. You can hear the sinister laugher echoing from the enemy’s letter.
Hezekiah probably wanted to panic and scream. Who wouldn’t? When the adversary is coming for us. Advancing its troops. Nowhere to flee. Nowhere to hide. No viable alternatives to counter the enemy.
But wait.
If our God is for us. Who can be against us. Theology that sustains. Theology that is based on God’s promises.
What Hezekiah does is not fear the enemy to the point he forgets who his God is. He goes to the Temple, God’s house. Places the enemy’s letter that is full of lies on the floor. He falls down before His God.
Instead of worry, he worships.
Instead of fear, he places faith in God.
Instead of panic, he prays.
Instead of crying to his human flesh, he cries out to a divine God.
Faith is bigger than fear. Trust in that truth today. Trust the Real Truth,
