Beauty in an Alabaster Jar

You are children of the light.  Walk in the Light of Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy.  While He was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of bard.  She broke open the jar and poured the perfume over his head.”  —Mark 14:3

When you have lived in darkness.  The woman with the alabaster jar.  She’s been there.  That’s why she went to find Jesus.

It took all the money she had.  Costed her everything to come.  To be able to sit at Jesus’ feet.

In Jesus’ time, expensive oils were stored in jars and then sealed.  The only way to retrieve.  Once you opened it.  You couldn’t close it.  A one shot deal.  All or nothing.

When she broke that alabaster jar.  There was no going back.  She was going to give Jesus her all.  Because in those dark places.  Only Jesus could have known and forgiven her.

When a certain immoral woman from the city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.

Then she knelt behind Him at His feet, weeping.  Her tears fell on His feet, and she wiped them off with her hair.”  —Luke 7:37-38

Historians believe she had engaged in immoral acts for money.  Your darkness may not look like hers.  But darkness and sin does not discriminate.  Its grip strangles regardless of who you are or what experiences you have gone through.

Take that alabaster jar of your life.  No matter how little you think you have to offer.  Break it open.  Pour out its contents.  And give it to Jesus.

To weep.  To worship.  To wait at His feet.

The woman with the alabaster jar.  Her past had defined her.  She decided she wasn’t going to let that happen anymore.

Every day.  Walk away from the darkness.  Instead, walk towards the light.

Walk in the Light of Jesus Christ.  Walk in the Real Truth.
