Ways to simplify your life and feel good. This morning we ran across some New Years resolution suggestions. Day 1. Take a trash bag and pick up litter on your street. Day 2. Open your fridge and throw away expired items.
Trash and yucky old food. Always nice to get rid of. But the world’s focus is not on divine ideas to cleanse your soul and bring you closer to God.
Its interests are the here and now, immediate gratification and short-term activities that approach only the surface. To feel good because good feelings make the world a better place. Measures that have nothing to do with eternity.
Feeling better about ourselves resolutions only deals with the surface versus deep soul cleansing.
If today, we make it our aim to clear up the streets and our fridge but forgoe cleaning up behaviors in our lives that pull us away from God.
If tomorrow, we decide to organize our closet by colors of the rainbow but neglect imparting some time in our day to meet with God and find truth in His Word.
We may feel good temporarily, but no shallow cleaning will ever nourish the soul and reach the hard places.
Warm and fuzzy vibes about the street, fridge, and closet never transforms anyone’s walk with God. Picking up litter outside won’t remove the junk dragging down your spiritual life.
Our relationship with God matters more to Him than expired cream cheese and ketchup. When we neglect life changes that impact eternity, the enemy has won even before we’ve opened the front door, fridge door, or closet door.
This year. Make your new year resolution to cleanse your soul more important than any temporal litter around.
God wants you to know Him and spend more time with Him and take care of your soul.
Cleanse your soul. Nourish your soul. Do good to your soul.
