Sometimes you have to leave home to understand the Father’s love for you. Sometimes you need the view away from home.
The wandering child. The rebellious one. The independent headstrong. In Luke 15, we glimpse the heart of one who leaves home physically and spiritually. Both of which requires a view from home to see what home really offered.
The wandering son looks at the life he has on the farm and finds it lacking.
- The world outside offered excitement, blitz, glitz, and glitter. A thrill of shiny baubles.
- The world offered adventure, new places and new people. A thrill of hookups.
- The world offered the unknown, not the same old or safe. A thrill of the mysterious.
But the thrills out in the world turn out to be temporal. Thrills of cheap perfume, cheap jewelry, cheap makeup. Cheap thrills with expensive consequences. Thrills to cover up and mask the truth.
Lack of authenticity, lack of holiness.
A fake picture and a fake facade.
Resale of truth. Just like you can purchase knockoffs of famous brand name purses, clothing, and accessories. Satan offers a resale of truth.
The prodigal son bought into that. And Satan wants you to do the same. Drape yourself with a lower quality of truth. Counterfeits. Fake it til you make it.
But what God offers is the real thing. Not resale Truth. Not cheap Truth. Not fake Truth.
Once the prodigal son hit rock bottom and his life was reduced to that of the pigs he was feeding. He wakes up. He finally gets it. This worldly counterfeit life was inferior.
Life with his father better.
So with us. Life with authenticity and holiness better. Life with God better.
The view from home looks better when you know it’s the Real Thing.
Choose the Real Truth. Choose life with The Father.
