Why Jesus Came

Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”  — Matthew 11:4-5

In Matthew 11.  John the Baptist is imprisoned yet he hears of the works of Jesus.  So he sends two of his disciples to inquire of Jesus:  Are you the Messiah, the one will save His people?

Jesus’ reply is remarkable.  He essentially delineates his ministry.

Jesus came to………

  1. Restore light to those who can’t see.  Free the blind.
  2. Give mobility to those who can’t walk.  Free the lame.
  3. Heal the incurable.  No cure exists for leprosy then or now.  Free the sick.
  4. Give hearing to those who can’t hear.  Free the deaf.
  5. Resurrect new life for those who’ve literally and figuratively died.  Free the dead.
  6. Proclaim the message of salvation.  Free the captives.

Jesus came for the spiritually blind, lame, sick, dead, and lost.  What He offered was freedom from spiritual bondage.

The maladies were real.  In the four gospels, stories after stories of real people whom Jesus healed are unveiled.  Not only did He heal their infirmities, but their sins were forgiven, their belief in God was restored, and their old way of life was abandoned.

People came to Jesus looking for a miracle of the flesh. Jesus gave them a miracle of the divine.

He knew they needed more than a physical change.  They needed a deeper transformation from the inside out.  Not a surface makeover.  But a change in the deep and dark spaces.  The hard and hidden places that hurt.

What areas in your life today needs a spiritual transformation?  Jesus is ready for you to come.

Let Jesus transform your life.  Let this Real Truth change your life.
