“Who but God goes up to heaven and comes back down?
Who holds the wind in His fists? Who wraps up the oceans in His cloak? Who has created the whole wide world? What is His name—and His Son’s name?” (Proverbs 30:4)
How incredibly amazing to find this reference to Jesus in the Old Testament.
Who but God traverses the heavens, carries the wind and ocean, and creates all there is, and is to come. All under His care. God the Father and His Son.
Setting the stage for the arrival of Jesus in the New Testament. We worship. In awe. In reverence. We venerate the One who left heaven to save His people.
From our series of the acronym REVIVE. V for venerate.
Venerate has its roots in Latin. Venarari. “To worship.”
One of the ways we worship is by aligning our life with His Word.
God’s Word. God spoke to Abraham. God would give Abraham a miracle. “When Abraham was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to Him and said, ‘I am El Shaddai–God Almighty. Serve me faithfully. I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.’ ” (Genesis 17:1-2)
But then God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son. His promised miracle. His promised child. “Take your son, our only son–yes, Isaac, whom you love so much–and go to the land of Moriah.” (Genesis 22:2)
What did Abraham do? He obeyed.
“The next morning, Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac….On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place [Mount Moriah] in the distance. ‘Stay here with the donkey,’ Abraham told the servants. ‘The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then come back.’ ” (Genesis 22:3-5)
What did Abraham do? He obeyed. He worshiped.
Like Abraham, we can align our life with God’s Word in the Bible. We have words of life available to us to help us live out each day, trust God, and give thanks in worship to Him.
Aligning our life with the truth of God’s Word. A powerful way to worship God and venerate Him. What an exciting Real Truth!
