Until Disaster Passes

🌿BREATHE TRUTH🌿
Be merciful, God, be merciful to me, for my soul takes refuge in You.  Yes, in the shadow of your wings, I will take refuge until disaster has passed.
—Psalm 57:1

🌿LIVE THE REAL TRUTH🌿

Washington DC.  2 out of 4 kids sick, including me.  I wasn’t well all day and spent most of it lying down.  By evening, I was feeling worst.  But our visit with our great-grandfather was over and it was time to go.

My oldest child is next to me helping me navigate the streets with the phone app.  As I’m driving, I could sense the fever, chills, nausea, and vertigo creeping upon me, threatening to take over.  First storm emerges.  I throw up in the car all over myself while driving.  Second storm erupts.  I pull over and throw up uncontrollably more.  Third storm ensues.  I miss a turn somewhere and we are totally lost.  Finally, I stop at a Valero gas station at a corner in downtown DC.  Too ill to go any further, I ask my daughter to call 911.

I had read Psalm 57 earlier that day.  The genesis of this psalm introduces us to the context it is written.  David is hiding in a cave while fleeing Saul who is trying to kill him.  I recall that morning, this is an odd passage God is leading me to.

The entire time I am driving in DC.  I am gripping the steering wheel, talking out of my mind to what seems to be no one and repeating these words:  Please have mercy on me God until this passes.  Please have mercy on me God until this passes.  Please have mercy on me God until this passes.

It was turning out to be one of those worst days kind of a day.

Disaster will occur in life.  It doesn’t matter who you are or who you are not, what you possess or what you don’t, and where you’ve been and where you haven’t.  God’s assurance is this:  No matter what happens keep on seeking God.  Help, hope, and healing will come.  The darkness will not stay dark forever.  The disaster will pass.  The night will not go on unending.  The disaster will pass.

God’s provisions.  Our soul takes refuge in God.

God’s protection.  Our soul hides under His wings.

God’s plan.  Our soul waits upon God until the disaster has passed.
