🌿Breathe Truth🌿
“Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge…….
I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.” —Psalm 16:1, 7
🌿Believe Truth🌿
Refuge is defined as a shelter from pursuit, danger, or trouble. As David’s success in the battlefield and popularity with the people increases, Saul’s jealousy increases, culminating in a myriad of attempts by Saul to hurt him. David’s successful solution: to seek refuge in the eternal instead of the temporal.
David fights Goliath the Philistine as a youth. Later David fights another “Goliath” as a young man, King Saul. While we may not have someone charging us, there may be pursuits chasing us which undermine our efforts to have peace with God and with ourselves.

Wasting of the Past. Choices we pick we regret. Decisions we made that turned out for the worst. The should-haves and could-haves that drive us to the wrong destinations. When we feel we wasted our past on dead-end rationalizations, deviant roads, and deficient relationships. The wasting of the past pursues us with this goal: to discourage our efforts of finding further places in Christ to grow.

Wanting of the Present. Often, we focus all our energy in obtaining what we want, that we forget what God wants for us: Our deepest for His best. We set lower, less lofty goals: Our highest for our best. A tunnel vision of self-will before God’s will. The wanting of the present pursues us with this goal: to distract our efforts of finding purpose where Christ positions us.

Worrying of the Future. The unknown future and the consequences of the unknown can bring about anxiety and trepidation. But sometimes, it’s not the unknown that makes us afraid, but the “idea” of the unknown. Like the runaway car. We give the unknown future “feet” that it shouldn’t have and then it takes off running with our security in tow. The worry of the future pursues us with this goal: to displace our peace in God with a restless doubt that Christ may not pull through for us.

Don’t let the Wasting of the Past, Wanting of the Future, and the Worrying of the Future overwhelm you.
Continue to seek refuge in God. His presence, omnipresent. His power, omnipotent. His protective arms will answer in truth all your past, present, and future concerns. David experiences challenges with his past, the loss of relationship with his wife and father-in-law, the present, the lessons to survive despite King Saul’s efforts to kill him, and the future, the leaning on God’s Word that he will become king one day even though this vision seems bleak. We can be overwhelmed by adverse pursuits chasing us or we can seek refuge in God to overcome them. Seek refuge in the right place to overcome your Goliaths. Seek refuge in the Real Truth.
