Pursue And Plan With Purpose

🌿Breathe Truth🌿

We can make our plans, but the Lord directs our steps.”  —Proverbs 16:9

🌿Believe Truth🌿

In 1 Samuel 30, we find a distraught and shaken David.  He and his small army of men come back from a rendezvous with the Philistine army where they are released from fighting.  What they find when they return to their temporary home of Ziklag:

An invading rival, the Amalekites, has attacked their home.  Their town is burned to the ground.   Their wives and children are kidnapped and carried away.

David and his men respond in weeping.  From weeping, his men’s emotions then turn to anger against David and they want to stone him.

Yet what does David do?  He holds on to God.  1 Samuel 30:6 tells us this:

David found strength in the Lord His God.”

He seeks courage and fortitude in his relationship with God.  This verse could be David’s life verse.  And it can be yours and mine.

In our journey with God, we may find ourselves arriving at a precipitice, an expected and unwanted ledge.  Looking over it, the only way may appear spiraling downward.

The steep cliff where David finds himself as a believer, husband, father, and leader seems precarious and perilous.

But under impossible circumstances, we have an immovable God who divinely gives us an unshaken hope in Him.  David doesn’t lose himself in his situation.  He loses himself in his God.

In the midst of dire straits, David turns onto firm ground—of faith.

To spiritually and physically regroup. So that he could take the next step.  We can learn a valuable lesson here from David’s life.

Don’t allow the enemy’s attacks to paralyze you and push you into an abyss of passivity.  Instead, pursue God’s plan forward.

Pursue and plan with purpose.

David walks away from the threshold of hopelessness.  He finds strength in His God and asks God what to do next.

David inquired of the Lord:  “Shall I pursue this raiding party?  Can I overtake them?”   “Pursue them,” He (God) answered.  (1 Samuel 30:8)

David heeds God’s instructions and is able to rescue his wife and children and his men’s families.

When we pursue and plan with purpose, God gives us a new vision of what to do next.  When David finds himself at a crossroad of falling over a cliff or and finding strength in God, he chooses the latter.  He allows God to direct his steps.

Should you meet that crossroad of devastation or cliff of disaster in your own life, find strength and sustenance in God.

Choose strength in the Real Truth to take the next step.
