“Only the living can praise You as I do today. Each generation tells of your faithfulness to the next.” —Isaiah 38:19

This king of Judah is overjoyed and overwhelmed with praise.
Hezekiah has just experienced two epic blessings from God: a miraculous healing which gives him 15 additional years of life and God’s promise of deliverance from the attack of the king of Assyria.
Two types of rescue. One from death. The other from the enemy.
The first rescue was from a physical death. He was ill and asked God to intervene in his life. But there is another kind of demise just as grave, spiritual death.

The second rescue was from a physical enemy. The Assyrians were a cruel and merciless nation that had conquered many other people groups. Their next target was Judah. Hezekiah had long known it was only a matter of time. But there is another kind of enemy, even more deadly, our spiritual enemy Satan.

All of us need deliverance from death and from our enemy.
Spiritual death separates us from God. It disconnects us from the source of eternal life and living water that never runs dry. Spiritual death is a process of starving yourself from any spiritual nourishment. A deprivation of the heart and soul of fellowship with God, eating His Word, hearing His voice, listening to His leading.

Our spiritual enemy, Satan, works overtime to make spiritual death possible and a reality. He tricks us into believing we don’t need God. That what we have is enough and adequate. He taps into our prideful nature. Satan deceives us into embracing a false sufficiency of ourselves and our carnal capabilities.
If we are spiritually content with where we are and what we have……
-We stop searching for God.
-We stop reaching for God.
-We stop running toward towards God.
-We stop desiring the presence of God.

In response to God’s intercession from death and his enemy in his life, Hezekiah writes a poem of praise:
“For the dead cannot praise You; they cannot raise their voices in praise. Those who go down to the grave can no longer hope in your faithfulness.” —Isaiah 38:18
Go ahead. Raise your voice in praise and hope in God’s faithfulness. Spiritually dead people deceived by the spiritual enemy Satan cannot praise and hope. But we can.
🍃🍃🍃
Praise and hope. Lift God up and place your hope in the faithfulness of His character.
Stay spiritually alive. Stay away from the fraudulent schemes of our spiritual enemy Satan.
Praise and hope in the Real Truth.
