My Heart

🌿BREATHE TRUTH🌿

Hear me as I pray, O Lord.  Be merciful and answer me!

My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”  And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”  —Psalm 27:7-8

🌿LIVE THE REAL TRUTH🌿

In Samuel 3, Samuel hears a voice calling out his name.  He runs to Eli, his father figure, three times, believing the high priest has called him.  Samuel responds with this utterance:  “Here I am.  Did you call me?”  (1 Samuel 3:4,6)

Finally, the third time that Samuel comes to Eli, Eli realizes it is God who is calling Samuel.  He advises young Samuel with this reply:  “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.”  —1 Samuel 3:9

Here I am.  God, I am making myself available to come to You.

Did you call me?  God, I am making myself available to hear from You.

Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.  God, I am making myself available to obey You.

🍃

In this passage, we see a tender picture of a son running to his earthly and Heavenly Father.  Samuel postures his heart to be tender to hearing and heeding the call from God.

Had Samuel ignored Eli’s instructions to make himself available to God, he would have missed the opportunity to connect with God and cement his future in God’s hands.  But Samuel steps boldly into the blessing of being intimate with God.  He doesn’t rush from God or resist Him.  The call from God to Samuel becomes the genesis of Samuel’s call to become a prophet.  Samuel, I am calling you to bring our fellowship to a greater level, build our relationship to a deeper level, and bond your heart to mine so you can serve my people as my bond-servant.

🍃

What defines Samuel’s life isn’t the call.  The call distinguishes his life, but it is Samuel’s response to the call that establishes the perimeters of his life.

Speak, Lord.  Samuel is eager and expectant to hear from God.

Your servant is listening.  Samuel is giving his full attention, awareness, and all.

It is Samuel’s response in faith that definitively sets his life apart.  Samuel responds in faith that God is God and that His words are truth.  In faith.  Through faith.  Because of faith.

Faith reaches forward.

Faith runs towards.

Faith receives the fruit of making oneself available to God.

🍃🍃🍃

Beloved, are you making yourself available to God and responding in faith to His call in your life?  Samuel’s heart hears God calling him to come and talk with God.  God is calling your heart as well.  Go ahead.  Take a step of faith.

Let your faith reach forward.

Let your faith run towards.

Let your faith receive the fruit of making yourself available to God.
