Leave the Darkness

Jesus came to set those in spiritual darkness free because He is the Light of the world.

In John 9, a blind man has an encounter with Jesus.    His story is a beautiful illustration of how light overcomes darkness.  Because Jesus is greater.  Because the light that He offers is from a divine source offered by a divine God for a divinely-loved people.

Jesus is walking along with His disciples when He sees a man in desperate need of sight and salvation.

In John 9:5, Jesus declares to His disciples that “while I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.”

Then Jesus does something unusual next.

He spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes.”—John 9:6

The result is dramatic and miraculous.

The man who was blind could now see.  Not only that, but everyone around him also witnessed this.  Important so no one  can refute it wasn’t Jesus.

Jesus changed a man who was spiritually and physically lost from the outside inward.  He raised up a man physically blind and showed him that his new vision was gifted through supernatural means.

Assured of what he has just experienced, this formerly blind man boldly answers the Pharisee’s angry doubts: “Ever since the world began, no one has been able to open the eyes of someone born blind.  If this man (Jesus)  were not from God, he couldn’t have done it.”—John 9:32-33

Jesus transforms this man’s spiritual blindness into a profound acknowledgement of who where Jesus cane from:  God.

The greater need.  Spiritual opening of our eyes.  Beloved, are you in need of being able to see the divine work of God in your life?
