“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.” —Psalm 118:8-9

Last night, my youngest daughter and I went to pick up some Italian food and French macaroons in the Carlsbad Village. As we were leaving, I saw a Starbucks across the street from the macaroons shop and couldn’t resist. Two matcha green tea Frappuccino for me (I like to freeze one for later) and one cake pop for her.
Then an odd thing happened. A man in line after us told the barista that he would pay for my order. The barista guy told him “No, you can’t pay for her.”
The man proceeded to pull out his credit card and reiterated that he would cover my order. An argument ensued between the two men. By now he was angrily waving his credit card in the air. I slipped my credit card into the chip apparatus and moved down from that counter.

This evening, my daughter and I returned to the same Italian restaurant to pick up dinner. No parking spaces available there so we parked one block away at the beach instead.
Near my car were two benches facing Carlsbad Beach. One bench was occupied by a lone man getting sand out of his shoes. The other bench was empty. My little girl asked if we could sit down on it and view the ocean. Simply, a fantastic view.

Then we returned to our car. As I turned on the minivan engine, a man suddenly appears outside the driver window. The same Polo shirt guy sitting on the bench next to us 5 minutes earlier. He said several things.
Among them, “Today is pi day. You know, 3.14. Happy Pi Day!” A math professor, he described himself.
In all honesty, the minute he showed up at my car window, I had endeavored to turn off the radio immediately. In the event I had to scream, I wanted someone to hear me.

Two days in a row. Two different men tried accosting me at a coffee shop and at the beach.
Both communication attempts that left me uncomfortable.

Trust is defined as a firm reliability, ability, or truth of someone or something. We trust only who or what we know. No trust existed between the two men and I because they were strangers to me.
We trust someone because we have a history with them, have cultivated a relationship with them, and have a firm reliability in them. Trust is based on knowing the character of the other person.

Instead of trusting in man, trust in God. He has no ulterior motives or hidden agendas. He does not drift with the shifting sand nor is He unpredictable as the tidal waves. Trust in God who is a safe place.
“Trusting In the Lord means safety.” — Proverbs 29:25
Where we place our trust, lies our hope. Hope of safety and security. Hope trusts in something greater than ourselves or circumstances. Hope thrusts all its trust in God.

Find your safe place in God. Hope in God and place your trust in the Real Truth.
