Help Us, O God!

We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us.  We do not know what to do, but we are looking to You for help.”  (2 Chronicles 20:12)

Life gets complicated.  Sometimes we feel trapped and don’t know what the next step is.  Our position in Christ however, doesn’t change, even when we are unsure of the direction we should take amidst oncoming opposition.

King Jehoshaphat is facing several armies advancing against him, including many of Judah’s old enemies. “After this, the armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites declared war on Jehoshaphat.”  (2 Chronicles 2-:1)

The king is desperately in need of God’s divine intervention and comes kneeling before God, setting a stage of humility and hunger for the will of God to be carried out: “Jehoshaphat was terrified of the news and begged the Lord for guidance.  He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting.”  (2 Chronicles 20:12)

Meanwhile, the people of Judah arrive corporately and stand before the Lord with their families.  The Spirit of God falls upon one of the men named Jahaziel (from a family of Levites) and speaks through him with a message to Jehoshaphat:

“This is what The Lord says:

Do not be afraid!  Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

Tomorrow, march out against them….But you will not even need to fight.

Take your positions; stand still and watch the Lord’s victory.  He is with you.”  (2 Chronicles 20:15-17)

When God means business, He is very specific in His instructions in how we should trust Him.  With the unknown.  In the unknown.  Through the unknown.  They are unsure and uncertain at how to handle the impending legions of advancing armies against them, but God is ready.  Our God is not a God that can be surprised by the attacks of His people’s attackers.

🍃

First, God encourages them not to be fearful because the battle belongs to Him.  This is not only a physical war, but a spiritual altercation.  Spiritual fights are not conquered by flesh and blood, but in the unseen realm of the supernatural.  Our Warrior God specializes in the supernatural.

Secondly, God prepares them to go and march and informs them of His plans.  However, the fighting will be executed and completed by God, not the people of God.  “You will not even need to fight.”  God knows how to battle, better than any mere mortal can.  Give the situation to God.  Let him overcome the battle for you.

Thirdly, God instructs them to take their POSITION.  This is in reference to two kinds of positions.  A physical warfare position and a spiritual warfare position.  All they need to do is to take their position.  Stand strong.  Stay still.  And see God’s victory come through for them.  Because His presence is completely with them.

🍃

The tender mercies of God fight for us and is victorious over us.  If ever there is a day, a time, a period, a season in your life where you feel you have no idea what to do and you are in need of God’s divine intervention…..remember that your position doesn’t change, even when circumstances are adverse and the odds seem against you.  You have an Advocate on your side who stands with you no matter how formidable the enemy seems.  Take your position and trust God to battle on your behalf.

Help us, O God.  Save us and fight the enemy for us.  We cry out to You, O God.
