“In Solomon’s old age, they (his wives) turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the Lord His God, as his father, David, had been.” —1 Kings 11:4

One God. One worship. One heart devoted to following Yahweh.
In the very beginning of his kingship, Solomon has wholeheartedly given his heart to God.
Simply: “Solomon loved the Lord and followed all the decrees of his father, David.” —1 Kings 3:3

Indeed, Solomon’s deep affections for God leads him to ask only for “an understanding heart so that I can govern your people and know the difference between right and wrong.” (1 Kings 3:22)
God is so delighted with Solomon’s request that He pours out to Solomon not only wisdom, but discernment, riches, and fame riches like no one else before him.
Out of concern and compassion, God instructs His people, including Solomon to be careful of the relationships they enter into, especially with individuals who neither hold a high regard for God nor faith in Him.
But Solomon ignores God’s admonishments and ignites a fire of rebellion that would destroy his fidelity to God. Solomon destructive engagement in idolatrous relationships through his idol worshipping wives begins the fall of a kingship.

“He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord.” (1 Kings 11:3)
Solomon switches loyalties. From a radically, devoted heart to a rebellious, deviant heart away from the Lord.
A pendulum swing from devotion to disobedience.
Solomon undergoes a 360 degrees turn of heart. A man after God’s own heart like his father, David, no more. Idolatry now captivates his heart. Solomon follows after his wives who bow down to idols made of stone, metal, and wood.
Solomon has become a Heart Turner.

How is your heart right now with God? Have you been walking in wholehearted commitment to God or leaving Him behind in wandering collusion with other loves?
Whatever love you choose that is not God, of God, or from God, is an inferior love that will not fulfill the need in your soul for eternity and a love relationship with the one true God.
Learn from Solomon’s mistake. Don’t be a Heart Turner. Be a Heart Seeker. Seek God’s Heart and run after Him. Be a Heart Seeker after the Real Truth.
