From Worst to Worship

🌿Breathe Truth🌿

As He (Jesus) entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, crying out, “ Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”……….

One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting “Praise God!”

He fell to the ground at Jesus, feet, thanking Him for what He had done.  This man was a Samaritan.  —Luke 17:13, 15-16

🌿Believe Truth🌿

In Jesus’ time, one of the worst things that could happen to you was leprosy.   Leprosy affected the skin, nerves, eyes.  If left untreated…. paralysis, blindness, crippling of hands and feet, and loss of fingers and toes. No cure was available back then.  It was like a death sentence.  Every.  Single.  Day.  A reminder that your situation was hopeless.  A thorn that pierced the deepest marrow.  These ten lepers seemed a motley crew.  But what they shared in common would change their lives.

Bonded by suffering.   “They must cover their mouth and call out, ‘Unclean, Unclean!  As long as the serious disease lasts, they are ceremonially unclean.  They must live in isolation in their place outside of camp.”  —Leviticus 13:45-46.  People looked in horror and fear of them.  They were considered unclean, unfit to be with the rest of society.  Ridiculed and exiled, they would be physically isolated for the duration of their disease, in this case, for the rest of their lives.

What made this band of ten even more unusual was the inclusion of one Samaritan leper among the nine Jewish lepers.  The Samaritans and Jews held long standing enmity since the times of the patriarchs and their descendants.  Suffering bonds people together and supersedes racial tension and animosity.

Bonded by faith.  He (Jesus ) looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”  And as they went, they were cleansed from their leprosy.  (Luke 17:14)  The lepers saw Jesus from a distance.  They called out to Him, asking for mercy and healing.  Jesus saw them with compassion and told them to go to the priest.

The significance of Jesus’ instructions to the lepers is mind-boggling:  Go see the priest.  He will approve for you to return to your village and home.  Trust me.  You are healed.

The significance of the ten lepers’ understanding of Jesus’ instructions is similarly staggering:  Jesus will heal us.  We trust Jesus will do this miracle without seeing it now. We believe His Word is truth.  The ten lepers believed without seeing.  Faith bonds people together and supersedes doubts of Jesus’ power.

Indeed, as they walked away to find the priest, they are healed.  One of the healed lepers, the Samaritan, returned to Jesus.  Falling at Jesus’ feet, he praised, gave thanks, and worshipped.

The worst experiences in our life.  Disappointments and failures.  In relationships, family, marriage, career, dreams.  All can be be turned into worship.

Jesus transforms our very worst into something greater.

Give Jesus your worst and choose worship instead.  Walk towards something greater and worship in this Real Truth today.
