Fog + Ice

Elements of the spiritual weather in our journey of faith can challenge us adversely.   Be encouraged.  These elements are under God’s control.

Can anyone hide from Me in a secret place?  Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth,” says the Lord. —Jeremiah 23:34

This past Wednesday was especially foggy on the mountains.  Rain fell down plus cold temperatures iced over parts of the ski slopes.  My family decided to go and ski in the afternoon.  3 pm.  Within less than an hour, they saw 4 people pulled in a medic sled.  First time they have witnessed this many injuries in such a short time.  To be on the safe side, they opted to ski in the simplest terrain for the remainder of the day.

Fog + Ice = slippery slope

Fog.  So thick.  Your eyes can’t see ahead of you or where you are going.  Limited visibility.

Ice.  So smooth.  Your feet can’t stabilize or find firm footing.  Limited traction.

Slippery slope is also a terminology used in law.  A relatively small step leads to a chain of related events resulting in a much larger and more significant negative effect.  A lost of control from the initial step to the final one.

As believers, we have seen and experienced the Fog + Ice effect.

Fog.  When we can’t see clearly where we are going.  Our vision is affected.

Ice.  When our feet are not planted firmly in God.  Our balance is off.

The Slippery Slope.  One small action escalates and eventually we stumble.  Over time, our relationship with God weakens and we fall.

Be careful where you enter and tread.  Your journey of faith has crossroads.  If you see Fog + Ice ahead, don’t venture there.  God has given His Holy Spirit as our Ultimate Guide.  He dwells inside of us.  He knows the best way to go.

But life sometimes takes unexpected and painful turns.

That relationship that wounds you.  Fog + Ice.

That circumstance that robs you of peace.  Fog + Ice.

That future you planned but resulted in frustration and dead ends.  Fog + Ice.

That “something” you trusted, that betrayed you.  Fog +Ice.

God understands.  God is everywhere in the heavens and earth.  He knows those fog and ice paths you have taken.  In secret and in full view.  He doesn’t want you to be overtaken by the slippery slopes anymore.

Trust God to show lead you where fog and ice isn’t.  God is bigger than the Fog + Ice in your life.  Make God bigger.

God is greater than these elements that you struggle  and battle through.  The fog and ice is still under his command.  Make the Fog + Ice smaller.  Make His Real Truth bigger.
