Filter of Faith

Your own ears will hear Him.  Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. —Isaiah 30:21

We spend the entirety of our lives on the fulcrum of these two seesaws and at the fork of these two roads:  Should I swing towards this way or that way?  Should I swerve to the right or to the left?  Should I seek to turn here or to turn there?  What is the best way?

Let the Divine dictate the direction of your driving.  The world’s way reverberates what we want to hear.  But God answers the cry of our heart to the way closer to His heart.  The prodigal son hears the world calling out its rich offerings of radical living apart from the Father, only to find not it’s not such a radical life after all, but a raw deal.  So why do we fall for this trap of being deceived and deluded?  Like a lover who whispers sweet nothings in our ears, at the end of the day, it is our heart that hears the empty promises.  Nothing comes into our ears that doesn’t filter through our hearts.  Beloved, the sinner’s heart is a battlefield where the filter of faith takes place.

Guard your heart above all else for it determines the course of your life.   —Proverbs  4:23

The heart determines the course.  The course determines the outcome.  The outcome determines which god we give ourselves to in the end.  What we hear flies into our ears, flees from our heart, flows through the filters where we turn right or left, and finds its outcome in the God Yahweh or the gods of this world.

The world has a counterfeit recording to mimic God’s truth:  This is the way you should go.  I have so much to offer you.  I love you and will lead you where you need to be.

At some point, we will find out that our lover’s words were all lies, as the prodigal son shockingly discovers.  But he has to arrive at the pig pen to realize that this is the very best the world has to offer.  At this tragic apex does he truly comprehend truth:  The world’s ultra finest fulfills absolutely nothing close to what our souls are searching for.  When we reach the Father in the outcome instead—this is where real radical living and loving takes place.  Not the playpen of the pig pen where the world crouches to keep us from the cross.
