This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them.” —Hosea 3:1

A heartbreaking picture.
Faithful God + Unfaithful people of God.
Faithful Spouse + Unfaithful Spouse.
Considered a cultural stigma, adultery is dealt seriously in the Old and New Testament times. The consequences include stoning and severance from society. Ostracism and rejection. Yet God calls Hosea to embrace, not to embarrass his wandering wife.
Not to shut out, cut off, or cast away. Not to shun or spurn her, repudiate nor renounce her. Not to desert, disavow, or despise her.
Instead, God uses Hosea’s marriage as a living illustration of His unconditional love for His people who have wandering minds, eyes, hands, and feet.

Spiritually and morally, Israel commits adultery by worshipping other idols like the countries around them. Spiritually and morally, Hosea’s wife, Gomer, engages in adultery in relationships with other men in her town. The spiritual and moral realms are not mutually exclusive, but interconnected. Both our spiritual and physical body is the living temple for only God to dwell. Violations in one realm, the flesh, has consequences, bearing fruit in the other realm, spiritual, and the same is true in the reverse. Satan, the source of sin hookups wants you to believe the lie that it’s not.
Despite our heartbreaking betrayals, God makes a deliberate decision to recommit to His people. To mirror this forgiveness, God teaches Hosea a painful way to honor Gomer: welcome your wife back, not walk away.

God takes the unfaithfulness of His people on a macro level and shows His forgiveness on a very micro level through Hosea’s marriage.
God delivers His plan of restoration for His people on a large and comprehensive scale and brings it down to a personal and private level they can understand and relate to.
God transforms heartbreak to sin break. He replaces what is broken and breathes wholeness into it again. In the process, He repaints the picture of sin to sanctification. He rewrites what looks like the ending and transforms this into a new beginning.

In our lives, God is still repairing, repainting, and rewriting our break up from sin. Is their a sin in your life that you need to break from? God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for every one of our hookups to sin. His crucifixion is a “Dear John” letter penned to Satan and every sin we have ever dated and indulged in.
Jesus Christ, the ultimate sin breaker, invites you to come and break off your sin relationships. Be a sin breaker, not a heartbreaker. Regain fidelity and return to your first love. No matter where you’ve wavered and wandered, God welcomes you back to the Real Truth.
